The Passing of Jim Dial

https://www.newcomerakron.com/Obituary/183154/James-Dial/Akron-OH
I'm saddened to announce the passing of Jim Dial. At 85 years of age, Jim passed into eternity April 3, 2020.

Jim's ministry to boys and men through Christian Service Brigade began circa 1974 . I (Dale Kinkade) first remember Jim as a Senior Counselor at camp in 1985. His knack for practical jokes and corny humor reciprocated the same from the Junior Counselors - creating memories for a lifetime. I also had the privilege of being Jim's assistant leader in the Battalion riflery program, and serving with him on the Regional Council. Jim served at camp for over 30 years and served on the Ohio Valley CSB Ministries board until the age of 78. Many generations of brigadiers, campers, Junior Counselors, and Brigade leaders have fond memories of Jim.

Just beyond Jim’s comical front was a man who studied God’s Word in depth as a scholar. He continually grew in his knowledge and understanding of the Scripture, and in personally living out his faith. It was Jim’s desire to share Christ and help others grow in their relationship with God and in their love of God’s Word that drove him to never stop ministering through CSB Ministries and beyond. Jim took every opportunity to share Christ. He was sharing the hope of Christ with his medical staff until he could no longer speak.

Ohio Brigade Camp Plans are Still on Track

The Lord is good, and He has instructed us to not fear (2 Tim. 1:7). I pray that each of you and your households are relying on Him for your strength and power. I pray that you are supporting one another, as well as looking for opportunities to speak truth into the lives of people without the hope of Christ. The desperation was evident on the faces of the people I met while out shopping yesterday. Without Yahweh- the only true and wise God who is able to keep us- I can understand the world’s fear.

We are NOT planning to cancel Brigade Camp for 2020. Though none of us ever really know what tomorrow will bring, we are continuing with our normal plans for the season. To help us fully prepare, we need all Staff, Junior Counselors, and Service Crew to get registered ASAP .

Campers; be assured you can register for camp without concern of losing your deposit. You can register and pay your deposit with no risk. If, for some reason, the current situation keeps us from carrying through with our plans for camp, we will refund all payments and deposits that were made.

Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV)
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Personal Updates from Dale Kinkade

I'm so grateful for the opportunity God has given me to be a part of His plan through CSB Ministries. It has been quite a while since I have given personal updates. Here is a very abbreviated overview of what has been going on in ministry and life…

Camp Registration Meltdown

On April 23 we lost our network server host for our camp registration site. We were left high and dry by the host company and the amount of hours it took to recover are immeasurable. Jeanne Seifert, Todd Sharkey and myself spent great efforts pulling the system back together. THANKS to your prayers and the many dedicated hours, we pulled it back together with little pain to our staff and registrants.

Camp Blessings

I hope you saw the Camp Director’s Report from Dave Buncher. We are praising God for the spiritual decisions made and the relationships built. I had a very blessed time leading the Junior Counselor Training week with Jack Reppart. Most of last year’s JC’s graduated, so we had nearly a whole group of newbies. They were a great group and we can’t wait to have them back next year! Developing young men toward servant leadership for Christ is core to the Brigade fabric.

Keeping Up With Life

This was the “year of the car” – spending money and time on them that is. Long term maintenance issues had built up in our “fleet.” I had to fix issues with the family car before we went on our summer excursions. Issues on the family car had me tearing half of the rear suspension apart as well as the top of the engine (intake manifold.)

We had to add a car for Madelyn to drive for work and her senior year of high school which involves commuting to YSU for College Credit Plus classes. We were blessed with a great deal on a 2004 Honda CR-V for Madelyn, but high mileage (240,000) demands extra and more costly maintenance. We went into the deal with eyes wide open and we are still way ahead. However, even with good deals and the ability to do the repairs, the car budget and savings has taken a BIG hit this year.

Family Time

It had been quite a while since we had taken a family excursion. We were blessed to be able to go to The Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum. AIG has done an outstanding job. If anyone has doubts about the possibility of the Noah account, the exhibit answers those doubts very well and with great quality.

Our next excursion took us to the Jersey shores for a family wedding and to Niagara Falls. We dropped the kids in Buffalo, and headed to the wedding. We then blitzed back to Buffalo and did an excursion to Niagara Falls, Canada with Jennifer’s family. Great beauty and power; and great family memories.

Leadership Trails

Among all of this and more, my revision and design management of Leadership Trails headed forward – AND IS COMPLETE! This completes a full revision of our Battalion materials. Pre-print response from those who have seen the updated edition has been very positive. We pray this will increase the success of the number of the men of tomorrow being discipled in biblical, servant leadership by the men of today.

Thankful

I am so grateful for all who help me carry out God’s call on my life. Your prayers and financial support help me accomplish my role in Brigade to disciple the men of today and tomorrow. Your prayers and support also help me fulfill my role as a husband and father. Thank you for being a part of my life!
